Safety Security Documents

With effect from 1st January 2021 all vehicles carrying consignments from the UK to the EU and Northern Ireland will be required to submit a Safety and Security Declaration (SSD) to the Import Control System (ICS) of the country where the vessel or train you are travelling on discharges (i.e. Calais, Santander, Dublin, Belfast etc).

A Safety and Security Declaration (SSD) is used by border authorities to analyse the potential risk caused to their territory by goods crossing their borders. It is not a document regarding collection of duties and/or taxes.
According to the Union Customs Code the “carrier” is responsible for submitting the Safety and Security Declaration.  However, Harbour Shipping is pleased to announce that we will be offering our clients a 24-hour service to submit the Safety and Security Declaration to the relevant country on your behalf.
