• It is a digital permission to travel to the UK and not a visa to stay in the UK.
• An ETA permits multiple journeys to the United Kingdom during a 2-year period as long as the holder’s passport remains valid.

Obtaining an ETA through Harbour Shipping

Harbour Shipping is happy to help anyone obtain an ETA to travel to the UK. So we can help our clients obtain ETAs for their freight drivers, but also for passenger, friends and family members. Beyond that you do not have to be a client of Harbour Shipping. Our ETA Help Service can help anyone who needs one obtain an ETA quickly and easily. Who Needs a UK ETA?

You need an ETA if:

• You do not need a visa for short stays (e.g. tourism, short business visits, or transit), but
• You are not a UK or Irish citizen.

This includes:

• Citizens of countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, EU/EEA countries, and others who previously entered the UK without a visa for short stays. This includes freight drivers!
• Even if you're only transiting through the UK (without entering), you may still need an ETA.

You should always check the official UK ETA website to see if your nationality requires an ETA.

Who Does NOT Need an ETA?

You do not need an ETA if:

• You are a UK or Irish citizen.
• You already have a UK visa.
• You hold a residence permit or have legal permission to live in the UK.
• You're entering the UK from Ireland and are a legal resident of Ireland (under the Common Travel Area arrangements — but this may depend on your nationality).
• You're from a country that still requires a visa for any kind of UK entry — in that case, you apply for a visa, not an ETA.

How to Apply for an ETA

• Apply online or via the UK ETA app.
• You'll need:
  • A valid biometric passport.
  • A digital photo (selfie-style).
  • Basic personal information and travel plans.
  • The fee.
• Approval typically comes within 3 working days, often sooner with Harbour Shipping's service.
• Once approved, it’s valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first), and you can use it for multiple visits.
