From 10th July: No permit – No Access to Port of Dover

Kent highways authorities, coordinated by Kent Resilience Forum, will re-impose Operation Brock with effect from Wednesday 10th July 2024. This time they are using new rules for freight traffic that wants to access the Port of Dover and Sevington IBF via the M20/A20/A2.

Preventing Chaos and Gridlock

During recent holidays, rat-running drivers have caused chaos and brought the towns of Dover and Folkestone to a standstill by getting stuck in residential and unsuitable roads. The new message from Kent Resilience Forum to freight drivers is "No permit - No Access to Port of Dover". This is in advance of the much higher traffic volume expected to travel through Dover and Eurotunnel due to the Summer holidays and the Paris Olympics.

A20 - New Checkpoint at Courtwood Interchange

From 10th July there will be a police and hightways checkpoint at Courtwood Interchange to ensure freight drivers follow the correct route and procedure. All freight heading to Port of Dover must leave the A20 at the Courtwood Interchange, at the junction of the A20 and the B2011, where their permits will be checked at the end of the slip road. If they have complied, they will be allowed to re-enter the TAP queue on the A20 and continue their onward journey to the port.

M20 - Sevington IBF, Ashford

The permit system will also be introduced at both the Sevington IBF and the Ashford International truck stop to ensure that any freight drivers stopping at these sites do not fall foul of the system.

M2/A2 - Brenley Corner

Extra traffic management will be put in place at Brenley Corner to support Operation Brock and the new permit system.

Local HGVs, deliveries and traffic

This will not need permits on the A20 and will not be impeded by the new Operation Brock procedures.
