This is the season for Christmas Markets and Christmas Fairs and in Britain they don’t come much bigger and bolder than the Winter Wonderland. This annual event draws the fun-seeking crowds to a huge area in London’s Hyde Park. There are fair rides, food areas, ice sculptures and not one but two circuses!

Of course this doesn’t just happen. As an established annual event the organisers start in early Summer every year (see their blog posts here). That means at Harbour Shipping we’re ready to help when most people are still on their Summer holidays. This year our Customs Clearance and Ferry Booking Teams have been busy as usual with all sorts of interesting imports… and some of these require a lot of care and attention. Some need special licenses; some are outsized.

A Work of Art

Imagine trying to squeeze huge fairground rides onto trucks, trailers and ferries. It’s a work of art! Dorothea Doyle from Harbour Shipping’s Ferry Booking team says,

“We’ve booked the ferry crossings for all the big rides and attractions such as the Munich Looping, the Bavarian village and the Hangover which is 85 metres high!”

Barth’s Munich Looping is the largest of all, already a famous ride from Munich’s popular Oktoberfest and the world’s largest transportable rollercoaster. All this of course requires numerous trailers across Europe and across the North Sea into Purfleet then into central London.

Successful Clearances

Being the largest entertainment ride, the Munich Looping must arrive and be set up first, so excellent planning is essential. Each one of the many trailers must arrive with their parts in order, after our Customs Clearance team have successfully cleared them through an array of HMRC and port administration.
